Police are gravely concerned about the 9 year old Shannon Matthews. She has been missing since Tuesday 19th February 2008. She was last seen on CCTV cameras at her local swimming pool. Police have received around 300 calls containing peoples worries about Shannon and there need to find her. More than 200 local homes were searched and also the local pond was searched as that could have been an interesting thing for young children but sadly nothing was found. Members of her family have been sending out fliers and have also been wearing T-shirts containing information. Police have been saying that she was wearing a black school jumper, black trousers, a black, waist-length coat with fur around the hood and a white cotton T-shirt. She was also wearing pink and black Bratz boots. Some friends of Shannon’s think she might have run away as she wanted to see her dad, who had split up with her mum a few years ago. She may have been trying to get to his home in Huddersfield.

Children around the world are making themselves miserable trying to follow trends from their heroes or from their peers. Kids today are more ‘with the craze’ and are either spending their pocket money or their parent’s money on material things such as: designer clothes and state of the art technology. Sometimes even the things their friends have. An estimated 30 billion pounds (per person) is being spent on these items every year!! Experts reckon that the adverts on the television or even the billboards on the street are the people to blame for children acting this way. People are even saying that all adverts containing stuff that is aimed at children should be banned. But why do we want all of these things? The reality of it all is that we feel like we are being left out without them and we are being put under pressure when our friends have them and we don’t. But why should we want these things when most of the world’s population can’t even afford to buy themselves food for one day!! Maybe we should think about these people when we want something the next time!!!
